Co-curricular Activities

Mead Elementary offers opportunities to engage students beyond the school day.

Competitive Robotics

Students are challenged through a cyclical design process to define needs, develop ideas, create prototypes, and test their creations via internal and external competitions and criteria. Students work with VEX IQ products (http://www.vexrobotics.com/vexiq/) which is a comparatively simple platform, designed for elementary school students to be introduced to STEM concepts. Student teams are challenged with solving a problem using their robot in District, regional and state (sometimes national) competitions, allowing students to test their ideas against peers.

**To participate, students must first have completed Intro to Robotics.

Intro to Robotics

We are excited to invite your student to participate in our Introduction to Vex Robotics! In this 8-week class, student teams will learn to build their very own programmable Clawbot Robot! Students will learn together in groups with up to four students per team. Students will culminate their learning with a design challenge competition. The competition will include student teams attempting to score points with their robot within a set timeframe. If your student enjoys the design thinking process, building with Legos, playing video games…this class is just for them!
