Advanced Math for Incoming 5th Graders

As part of our commitment to fostering academic excellence, we offer an Advanced 5th Grade Mathematics class designed for students who demonstrate exceptional readiness and aptitude in math. This program covers both 5th and 6th-grade math standards within a single school year, preparing students for an accelerated math pathway through middle school and beyond.

Eligibility Criteria
Placement in the Advanced Math program is determined through a structured review process that considers multiple measures of student performance and potential. These measures include:

  1. State Standardized Test Scores (25%)
    • 4th Grade CMAS Mathematics Scores: Students scoring Level 4 (Met Expectations), or Level 5 (Exceeded Expectations) will be considered.
  2. District and Classroom Assessments (25%)
    • i-Ready Math Diagnostic Scores:
      • Spring Diagnostic: “On or Above Level” overall for 4th grade, ideally scoring within the “Late” range or above.
  3. Teacher Recommendations and Classroom Performance (25%)
    • Teachers will provide insights based on observed student performance, work habits, and readiness for an accelerated curriculum.
  4. Student and Parent Academic Goals (25%)
    • Alignment between family and student goals with the expectations of the Advanced Math program is an essential consideration.

Program Availability
Due to the advanced pace and structure of this program, space is limited, and placement is based on a body of evidence that ensures we are identifying students best positioned for success. Families of selected students will be notified and invited to confirm their enrollment.

Why Multiple Data Points?
We use a variety of assessments and teacher input to ensure that each student’s unique strengths and readiness are fully considered. This comprehensive process allows us to identify students with the potential to excel in an accelerated environment while ensuring they are set up for success.
